After watching JVP’s video above, we recommend browsing the updated guide to having difficult conversations about Israel/Palestine, learning about the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, and taking a look at a more in-depth primer like Phyllis Bennis’ “Understanding the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict–A Primer”.   Even though Palestine is not an official state, the U.S. and Palestine have a long history of rocky diplomatic relations. With Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas set to appeal for the creation of a Palestinian state at the United Nations on Septem —and the U.S. set to veto the measure—that foreign policy history is again in the spotlight.

With the signing of the Oslo Accords that led to the outbreak of the so-called peace process between Israel and the occupied Palestinian people, the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) abandoned its initial political goals (to realize the right of.

Soon after the Israeli invasion, a series of laws have been passed to organize the seizure and use of Palestinian property. The Absentees' Property Law of March transferred the right of the natural owner to a Custodian of Absentee Property and made him liable to the real owner for the value, but not the return, of his property (Lehn, p).

The Palestinians who remained in Israel. Israel adopted a policy of conquest of Palestinian land, not only by military means but also by a series of fictitious pseudo-legal regulations intended to obscure the outright plunder of the land. 16 In Marchat the initiation of the Israeli military operations, the Haganah (the forerunner of Israeli Army, IDF) created a "Committee for Arab Properties in Villages".

Origins. The prevailing view attributes the origins of the status quo to a letter sent by David Ben-Gurion, as chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive, on 19 Juneto the ultra-Orthodox Agudat Israel, in order to form a united policy to present to the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP), which had commenced its fact-finding tour four days earlier.

Israel remains one of the most stable countries in the Middle East, despite an extremely diverse society marked with cultural and political differences between secular and ultra-Orthodox Jews, Jews of Middle Eastern and European descent, and the split between the Jewish majority and the Arab Palestinian ’s fragmented political scene invariably produces large coalition Author: Primoz Manfreda.

Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip live in an odd and oppressive limbo. They have no nation, no citizenship, and no ultimate power over their own lives. Sincewhen Israel conquered these areas (the final 22 percent of mandatory Palestine), Palestinians have been living under Israeli military occupation.

But Feldman’s book resurrects moments like the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s trip to Palestinian refugee camps inand poet June Jordan’s line that she was “born a Black woman, and now I am become a Palestinian,” written after the massacre of Palestinian refugees by Israeli-allied forces in Lebanon.

Israel in recent days delivered virus test kits to the West Bank and held training sessions for Palestinian medical workers on how to protect themselves.

Israel’s Civil Administration, the military-run authority in Palestinian areas of the West Bank, promised to supply medical equipment and training as needed. Israel and the apartheid analogy is criticism of Israel charging that Israel has practiced a system akin to apartheid against Arabs and Palestinians in its occupation of the West Bank.

Some commentators extend the analogy to include treatment of Arab citizens of Israel, describing their citizenship status as second-class. The analogy has been asserted by critics of Israel including scholars.
